Workforce Development

A company, and community's, long-term competitive advantage is dependent on the availability of a highly skilled workforce.

BEDC has formed a Workforce Development Taskforce to:

  • Assess the immediate and long-term workforce development needs of Burlington's business community
  • Engage our post-secondary institutions
  • Recommend strategic directions for ensuring that the city has the right workforce to allow it to compete globally
  • Identify action oriented projects  to augment the city's education and training infrastructure

The Taskforce's objectives are:

  • To lead Burlington's education and workforce development initiative as a means of ensuring the community's long-term competitive advantage/economic prosperity and generating a return on investment both to local businesses and taxpayers.
  • To lead the identification of Burlington business community's short- and long-term training and education needs. Engage the training and education community and associated government agencies with respect to ensuring that the needs of the business community are addressed through their policies and programs and that services are delivered in a coordinated manner.
  • To develop of a Workforce Development strategy for inclusion of, and linking to, the BEDC's Economic Development Strategy and Burlington's Strategic Plan.
