"Burlington's convenient location allows it to draw experienced workers from nearby communities such as Hamilton, Oakville, Niagara, Mississauga and Toronto with easy access via the QEW, 407 and 403. In 2000, non-Burlington residents filled more than half of the local jobs. In 2003 this effectively increased the labour pool available to Burlington area companies to over 487,000 people".

Workforce Catchment Area

The City of Burlington is strategically centred in North America's major consumer and industrial market and is located 55 kilometers west of Toronto and approximately an hour's drive to Buffalo New York. Many of the province's 400 series highways converge in Burlington, including the Q.E.W., 403, and 407. A business location in Burlington provides one-day driving access to approximately 130 million people. This represents 70% of the Canadian population and 44% of the total U.S. population. Our employment catchment area is also very large including 487,435 people, 4 university campuses and 2 colleges. Our surveys with Burlington employers indicate that their employees comfortably travel to work from within the catchment area that includes Oakville, Milton, Hamilton, Guelph, Cambridge, Brantford, and St. Catharines.
